The new DLC, Los Santos Mercenaries, is here with a set of six story missions. Perhaps the hardest part of these new missions is figuring out just how you are supposed to destroy the seemingly indestructible Avengers.
There is, however, a very simple way to destroy them in just a couple of minutes – watch the video above to see it in action.
The key is getting the Avenger’s AI pilot to glitch out and destroy himself.
There are several ways in which you can do this with varying degrees of success, but nothing is as easy is simply flying out to sea keeping the Avenger at a safe distance and then flying as low as possible. Don’t stay still, but keep moving.
After a minute or so of flying like this the Avenger AI pilot will simply glitch out and ditch the Avenger in the ocean meaning you actually don’t need to fire a single shot to defeat it!
There are variations of this approach that you can take.
One is to fly through the wind farm to the east of Sandy Shores airfield (by the big lake) and the Avenger will take damage from the wind farm rotors, plus it will keep crashing into them making it a sitting duck. The key is not to get too close as your F-160 Raiju’s missile range is longer than the Avenger’s so at the right distance you can keep firing while it won’t fire at you at all.
You can also try flying through the tall buildings in Los Santos, but in testing this the Avenger didn’t really take any damage. You can, however, use the buildings as cover swinging out briefly to fire your missiles and then back into cover.
In terms of the Raiju’s weapons, the missiles have auto-aim but do less damage, whereas the cannons will do much more damage more quickly, but with no auto-aim are a test of your flying skill and ability to stay out of range of the Avenger’s missiles. The Avenger’s missiles are inaccurate but they will hit every now and then, particularly if you’re below it, and only two hits will blow up your Raiju.
