We’re aware of a serious issue with the current version of GTA Liberty City Stories on iOS when playing the ‘Calm before the storm’ mission, but the potentially good news is that we found a workaround.
Watch the video above to see it in action.
On either the second cut scene at the construction site or the third scene over Chinatown the game simply crashes with seemingly nothing you can do about it. Worse still the crash repeats, leaving the player unable to progress.
This is affecting version 1.13 which was released on 15 July 2016. We’ve played the game a number of times on earlier versions both on old iPads and new iPhones with iOS9 and did not experience this issue. It may be that it’s related to iOS 10, but we don’t have confirmation of that at this stage.
We’ve certainly experienced it this time around, but have found a workaround.
We tried restarting the app, restarting the phone, upgrading to the latest version of iOS and even reinstalling the game and progressing back through to the ‘Calm before the storm’ mission, but seemingly nothing worked, indicating it is a fundamental bug with the game rather than a temporary device-specific memory issue. We’ve also tried both being signed in and signed out of the Social Club. When we switched to airplane mode and did the below, we finally progressed.
So, what can you do to try and resolve it?
a) Post a message on Rockstar support and contact them directly to stress the urgency of the issue
b) You could try our workaround and see if it works. We put the device in airplane mode, restarted the app and restarted the game. We skipped all the cut scenes, but played the whole cut scene in Chinatown where the helicopter lands on the rooftop. It worked. This was on an iPhone 6S running the latest version of iOS.
If anyone has any luck with other ways of getting past this stage and also if this workaround works for you, then please let us know in the comments, so others can avoid the frustration of not being able to advance in the game.

I found a way! But it requires an android phone though. See this as kind of a bypass or mission skip for the iOS.
What I did was I got LCS on the android phone (Since my phone wasn’t compatible I had to use an APK but I have no intention to keep it).
Next I signed into social club so that I could get to the mission easily.
I played the mission no problem and afterwards I saved my game to the social club cloud.
Finally, I simply loaded the game from the social club cloud.
I’m running on iPad Air 2 iOS 10.1.1

When I say load in the game on the final step I mean load it in on iOS.

Phew – worked. Finally can get on with the game. Thanks man.

I completed one of the street races than played the mission skipping all the cut scenes but let the one in Chinatown finish and it worked perfectly
Chris
Nice one, glad it worked for you

GTA LCS CRASH FIXED!!!!
I restarted my ipad, put it in airplane mode, did a taxi mission first, then skipped ALL cutscenes except the Landing one. And it worked!

Crap, I tried the airplane mode thing and it worked, but I didn’t have armor and got killed. Now I can’t get it to work again. Anyone else have luck getting it to happen a second time?
Chris
Man, that’s annoying. Try attempting another mission and then retry or reload game from earlier save point.

I restarted my phone, put it on airplane mode. I beat the china town bike race, saved the game, skipped all cut scenes except the last one. It worked. Iphone 6

I’ve tried all these tips and none of them work, rockstar support is useless
Help?
Chris
Airplane, restart, doing another mission then coming back to it and starting from a previous save. Combo of them seem to work for most people. See video for how we did it.
