The chances are that if you play regularly in a Public Lobby in GTA Online then you will have seen the ‘Hunt the Beast’ free mode event.

When the notification that the event is upcoming you’ll have the opportunity to sign up as The Beast and then the game will choose The Beast from those who have signed up.

If you’re The Beast then you will get boosted speed and strength making you harder to kill. You have 30 minutes to reach 10 landmarks spread across the map without being taken out by any of the other players. When you reach one of those landmarks, or if you don’t reach a landmark in 3 minutes, the purple Beast icon will appear on the map for a short while before disappearing again.

For other players they will need to take that opportunity to work out which area of the map you are in and obviously if they are nearby then they can target your exact position. However, it’s more likely that those hunting you don’t know where you’ve headed after the previous landmark and will need to chase your new position.

The most effective way to hunt down The Beast is to head over to the icon as soon as you see it in a vehicle that has auto targeting like the Sparrow or an Oppressor. That means that as long as you’re in the right vicinity the auto targeting missiles will target The Beast and have the power to take them out in one shot as opposed to taking them on on foot which is much harder due to their increased health.

If you’re quick enough to reach them, then you get around $13k and some bonus RP, not much versus other activities but a fun distraction when it pops up.
