Rockstar have introduced Taxi Work to GTA Online as a new way to earn some money driving NPCs around the map.
Watch the video above to see how it works.
To start Taxi Work you need to visit the Downtown Cab Co. which is just to the south of the casino and shows up as a new cab-shaped icon.
Walk into the white marker and Taxi Work will start. A few seconds after the cut scene a blue passenger icon will appear on the map. Drive over to them, beep your horn and then drive them to their destination. Once you’ve completed the fare there’s no penalty if you then take them out!
You’ll get a set fare for each ride, plus a bonus which is reduced if you’re slow or if you crash into anything. The bonus goes up from an initial $1000 each consecutive ride to a maximum of 10 trips. You can still keep going after 10 but the bonus won’t go up any further.
Complete 5 rides and you’ll get a bronze reward and RP, complete 10 and you’ll get a silver reward and more RP. You can also get an award and yet more RP for a ‘five star’ ride where you get the full bonus.
More things to know about the Taxi Work
- You can cancel Taxi Work via the Jobs menu on your Phone
- If you crash into a prospective customer they will get spooked and run off. Strangely, they are impervious to direct fire but you can take them out with an explosive weapon
- When the passenger is waiting you can fire at other vehicles or indeed another player who is trying to take you out and they won’t get spooked!
- Once you’ve completed 10 consecutive rides without leaving your taxi, you unlock the special trade price for your own taxi from Warstock at $487,500 which is 25% off the standard price is $650,000. Your new taxi is available by calling Pegasus and paying $200 after which it will get delivered to the nearest Pegasus spawn spot
- You don’t, however, have to buy a taxi of your own. You can always get one by going back to Downtown Cab Co. and walking into the white marker. You can’t steal a taxi for Taxi Work by calling the Cab Co. and taking out the driver.
- If you get a wanted level, then the Taxi Work will stop and your passenger will make a run for it.
- If you’re on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, when you call for a Downtown Cab from your phone, you now also get a new option to fast travel to your destination (as with GTA 5 Story Mode) which seems unfair on those not on those specific platforms, so hopefully Rockstar will add it to all platforms soon as it’s a handy way to move across the map at speed.
