Rockstar have added a new all-access Railgun to GTA Online as part of the drip-feed of Los Santos Drug Wars updates.
See how to unlock it and how the Gun Van works in the video above.
While the Railgun is new to open play, it’s not exactly new to the game. It has been used in several missions, such as one of the Gunrunning re-supply missions where you steal one from the Merryweather HQ. However, you couldn’t use it outside of those missions.
To get hold of one, you’ll need to find the new Gun Van. The Gun Van is effectively a mobile Weapons Workshop.
On the plus side, it offers the unique Railgun and extra discounts on stocks even above the Weapons Worskhop, but it also only has a limited stock of weapon types and won’t let you buy ammo for MKII weapons.
The Gun Van only appears on the map when you are close by and, frustratingly, changes location each real-world day to one of 30 possible locations. If you want to know where it is today, then it’s probably best to check the comprehensive map at https://gtaweb.eu/gtao-map#ls (click ‘Hide all’ at the top and then click on ‘Gun Van’).
More about the Railgun
The Railgun can hold 20 ammo, but thankfully you don’t have to visit the Gun Van to reload, as you can simply re-supply via the Interaction Menu’s Ammo option either for the Railgun specifically under Heavy Weapons or via the ‘All’ option.
You can only buy it from the Gun Van as it’s not stocked in Ammunation or even in your Weapons Workshop.
It’s a powerful weapon with high damage and shooting range, but the accuracy and fire rate are low and the ‘explosion’ area is small meaning you need a direct hit on your target.
However, if you can indeed get it on target it’s an excellent weapon for taking out those pesky Oppressor MKIIs.
It costs $657k which includes a 10% discount on the standard $730k. You can change the weapon’s tint colour, but that’s it in terms of upgrades, for now at least.
More about the Gun Van
The Gun Van’s doors will open when you approach. It’s also completely immovable and indestructible, as is the seller himself who counts as a ‘friendly’ in the game meaning you can’t fire when aiming at him, not that it would make any difference.
While it only sells a limited range of weapons and ammo, it’s currently the cheapest place to buy those weapons in the game as its discounts beat even those of the Weapons Workshop. For example, the Assault Shotgun costs $10k at Ammunation, $9.5k at your Weapons Workshop and only $9k from the Gun Van.
So, while it’s a hassle to location the Gun Van each day, it’s a good way to save some money on your weapons, ammo and armour.
And finally, if you have a wanted level the Gun Van won’t open.
