It’s been a while, but Google is making a significant move with GrandCentral (one number, multiple phones) that it acquired back in 2007. They’ve now partnered with Sprint so that if you’re a Sprint customer in the US you can choose to make your phone a Google Voice phone as well.
Sprint customers can use their Sprint number for Google Voice and vice-versa, if you follow, but Google becomes the voicemail service either way. Spring customers also get Google Voice’s low international rates, a pretty bold move on Sprint’s behalf.
It’ll be interested to see if operators this side of the pond follow suit…
