GTA 6

Key things missing from GTA VI trailer

What's missing GTA VI trailer

In the end Rockstar decided to release the trailer several hours early after yet another leak. The more cynical would call that a great piece of publicity, but either way we now have something official to get our teeth into.

While the one and a half minute trailer reveals many interesting things about the upcoming game there are some huge unanswered questions.

Watch my breakdown of them in the video above.

The key questions are as follows:

6 stars: Will six stars be coming back to GTA 6? GTA 5 famously was the only recent GTA game not to include a six star wanted level which traditionally involves the army coming after you in tanks. It’s rumoured that it was planned for GTA 5 but dropped due to development time. After the long wait, six stars are an essential improvement

Platforms: sadly, the game will only be available on launch on new generation consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X/S), with no release date for PC and probably no release ever for older generation consoles

Transport: while the trailer showcases plenty of exciting looking vehicles on land, sea and sky, there’s no shot of trains, trams or any jets beyond passenger jets. On this point we can be pretty confident that all manner of vehicles will come to the game, but GTA Vice City had no trains or trams, so will the famous unstoppable train be restricted to GTA 5 and history?

Freedom of movement: GTA 5 broke with tradition in allowing your character to move freely around the map without restrictions until you’d unlocked other parts of the map as you have with GTA San Andreas and GTA Vice City among others. Will Rockstar lock down certain areas of the map and bring back the fun of getting wanted levels by going where you shouldn’t early on?

Army/navy bases: GTA games have always featured the hostile army and/or navy bases which are a staple of the franchise and indeed Fort Zancudo is properly the most entertaining location in GTA 5. At this point there’s no mention or shot of any kind of base nor are there shots of the army or Feds chasing down the in-game characters. It would be very surprising if they ditched this winning formula. GTA Vice City has a base on the western island and hopefully there will be both army and navy bases in GTA 6 as in GTA San Andreas

Weapons: the trailer shows shotguns, handguns and melee hammers being featured, but nothing bigger like the infamous rocket launchers found in other GTA games. We can only hope that Rockstar is saving these for launch as again they are a staple of the formula and only add to the carnage.

What’s missing and unanswered for you at this point? Let me know in the comments…
