It may be that you’ve been trying to load GTA Online the wrong way all this time on PC… If you usually click straight on ‘Online’ then you could potentially save 50-100% of the loading time.
This has been tested on PC, but should also apply at least in relative terms on PlayStation and Xbox.

Option 1: click straight on Online
This is the seemingly obvious choice. Surely that would take you straight into Online in the quickest possible way? No. If you click on Online it takes around 2 minutes to get you into a Public Lobby.
Option 2: click on Story Mode, then open a Public Lobby
In fact, if you open up Story Mode first, then up up a Public Lobby (the default option) then your game will load around 50% quicker in c.1 minute 30. The reason is that Story Mode loads more quickly as there is less to download from the servers given it’s just you playing and it doesn’t need to load data from the other players in the Lobby. This pre-loads a lot of the content that GTA Online needs making GTA Online load quicker.
Option 3: click on Story Mode, then open an Invite-Only Lobby
This is the quickest option by far, potentially loading the game 100% quicker in around 1 minute total. Again, the reason is that there is less to download in Story Mode and less again in Invite-Only as it’s only your GTA Online content to load rather than data from other players in a Public Lobby.
Give it a try and compare your loading times with the examples above. At the very least it will save you a comparative amount of time and hopefully the full 50-100% or even more depending on your setup and connection.
