How to blow up El Rubio’s heli in GTA Online Cayo Perico Heist

How to blow up El Rubio's heli GTA Online

Rockstar have ensured that El Rubio’s helicopter is unrealistically resilient to fire. Of course their reasoning is to make the final escape from Cayo Perico more difficult and it can be frustrating to fail at the end in a hail of fire from the attack helicopter.

However, it is possible to take it out in the following ways as seen in the video above:

Keep shooting

If you concentrate your fire on the pilot and keep shooting with a powerful weapon then eventually El Rubio will fly away. The problem is that by then his guards will likely have surrounded you and you’ll be taking significant damage.

Use the sticky bombs

This is an easy way to take out his heli without even having to fire a shot.

To do this you’ll need to have the sticky bombs which you get hold of by choosing the Conspirator set at Weapon Loadout in the Heist preparation.

When you escape the compound run to the helicopter landing pad to the north west (at 10 o’clock as you look out from the gate). Throw three or more stickies at the heli, but don’t detonate them yet.

Then start making your escape. When Pawel tells you that El Rubio is getting in his helicopter ‘again’ wait for it to get near. When it’s within range, detonate the stickies and you’ll see the explosion and his heli will simply fly away without so much as firing a shot at you.

It doesn’t actually explode for some reason, but at least you won’t be bothered by El Rubio any more.

Do it in style!

Now if you want to be more creative, you can do what we did at the end of the video above and take him out just for fun…

You’ll need to first take out the air defences at the water tower on the airstrip and then jump in one of the two Velum’s on the airstrip.

Then fly your Velum towards El Rubio’s heli and simply fly in to him with the Velum. We didn’t manage it, but you can also jump out at the last minute to enjoy your handiwork as your parachute back down!
