Weapon customisation to unlock Special Ammo – GTA Online

If you visit Ammunation you may notice that certain weapon and ammo types are locked and can’t be upgraded there.

So, how do you unlock them in GTA Online? The video above takes you through the steps required.

How to unlock Special Ammo in GTA Online

1. First you need to purchase a Bunker from Maze Bank Foreclosures via the in-game internet browser on your phone
2. Then head to the PC inside the Bunker and start the Gunrunning missions
3. Once you’ve completed the initial setup, you’ll need to assign your Staff members. Either assign them all to Research or select both Manufacturing and Research and the Research will be slower but you can sell your stock in the meantime.
4. If you want to speed things up even further you can spend to fast-track Research which will unlock the weapon upgrade the Staff are working on, albeit you’ll need to pay more the earlier in the Research cycle they are
5. Unfortunately the upgrades unlock in a random order so you can’t select a particular upgrade, for example if you’re only focused on acquiring the Explosive Ammo you’ll have to wait for its turn
6. When you’ve unlocked the upgrade you need to head to a Weapons Workshop to select the upgrade and top up your ammo. You get these through certain property types – Arcade, Agency, Arena – and through certain specialised vehicles – Kosatka, Terrobyte, Mobile Operations Centre and the Avenger
7. Once you’ve unlocked the weapons you want or indeed all of the weapon upgrades, then you can set your Staff to focus on Manufacturing and start earning some of that money back you spent on the Bunker…

The weapon upgrades you can unlock

• MK II weapons: these are more powerful and customisable variants of the Ammunation weapons, such as the lethal Heavy Sniper MK II
• Ammo upgrades: once you’ve upgraded your weapon you can choose to equip it with the likes of Explosive, Hollow, Incendiary, Full Metal Jacket and Armour Piercing Ammo
• Attachments: heavier barrels, flashlight, improved scopes, grips, suppressors, magazines, liveries and extended clips
• Ballistic Equipment: for $5000 a time you can request Ballistic Equipment which will send an unlimited ammo minigun and very heavy armour to a location near you

The vehicle upgrades you can unlock

• Additional armour, weaponised trailers and vehicle weapons, including the infamous Oppressor MK II Missile Launchers
