Thelma Louise Easter egg – how it works in GTA Online

If you visit the spot near Raton Canyon shown in the video above between 7-8pm every in-game day then you can trigger the GTA Online Easter egg which is a tribute to the famous ending of the Thelma and Louise movie.

In the movie the two protagonists join hands after being cornered by the cops and then drive off the cliff to ‘continue’ their journey at which point the end credits roll and it’s never explained what happens to them, although let’s face it driving a car off a cliff is never going to end well…

The Easter egg will only trigger if you are out of view of the cliff top at 7pm, so wait in a helicopter nearby and then at 7pm fly towards the cliff top again as shown in the video above.

What should happen is that as you approach the scene Thelma and Louise will drive off the cliff top as in the movie.

However, the beauty of the Easter egg is that there are many different ways it can play out, both intended by Rockstar and non-intended:

• You can actually block their car and they will beep their horn until you get out of the way causing a long stalemate
• You can take out all the cops which unfortunately usually spooks Thelma and Louise leaving them stuck in their car rather than escaping to a life of freedom
• You can block their car and then steal their vehicle and drive it off and even add it as a unique Personal Vehicle, a variant of the Tornado with the iconic two guitars in the back seats. Take it to Los Santos Customs to repair it and even add a bomb to it
• If you block their way and then park a car next to the passenger door, you can steal their car and then drive off with Thelma alongside you to recreate the movie ending yourself! As long as you don’t land on the bonnet you can usually survive the fall, but Thelma will jump out at the first opportunity
• If you let the car drive off the cliff and then follow it down, then sometimes the car explodes and sometimes it doesn’t which usually means Thelma survives the crash and you can follow her as she runs off in a random direction. If the car survives the fall, again you can drive it off and convert it into a Personal Vehicle
• No matter what happens to Thelma and Louise the Easter egg will keep triggering every in-game day as long as you are not on the cliff top
