GTA is back and it’s a big one, San Andreas

It’s the Christmas present all fans of Grand Theft Auto apps have been waiting for – GTA San Andreas is now live in store.

However, there’s good news and bad news depending which platform you use.

First the good news, it’s available on iOS on both iPhone, iPad and iPad formats. It’s a whopping 1.5 GB of a download, but worth the wait.

Given its size and memory demands, it’s not available on all iOS devices with older devices and operating systems missing out. If you have iPhone 4S, 5, 5c, 5s, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2, 3, 4, Air, Mini, then you’re able to get the game. On the operating system it’s better news with iOS 4.3 plus able to run the game.

It’s currently priced at a hefty £4.99 or $6.99 US, but given the scale and depth of the game it remains worth the outlay, particularly when you consider the price of a console game. If that’s too much for you, then Rockstar usually run price promotions from time to time.

Despite the price point, it’s riding high at number 2 in the UK charts, and number 1 in the US, but surprisingly only at number 5 in the UK top grossing chart, with 3 free titles ahead of it showing the potential of in-app purchases. The other game is sequel The Room Two a place above in the grossing chart and number 1 in the UK chart.

Now the bad news. If you’re on Android or indeed any other mobile platform then you’re missing out for now. At least the Android version should follow very shortly with Windows Mobile either at the same time or shortly afterwards given it’s lesser reach. Rockstar say they will be out later this month and we expect them to be out before Christmas given its the top sales period of the year.
